HOW MUCH WE ACHIEVED DURING PAST YEARS?

26 Jan 2017

After winning the general election on 5th January, 2014, the present government led by Sheikh Hasina has completed three years. This is Sheikh Hasina’s third term leading the government.

At the time of her taking oath on 12th Jan, 2014 the situation in the country was stormy and she faced all the challenges in that year. From 5th January, 2015 the situation in the country became more fearful due to the killings, arsons and burning petrol bombs, by the BNP-Jamaat alliances, when more than 300 innocent people lost their lives.

The most important contribution in the third year was the trial of the 1971 war criminals and political killers, which were carried out even after many countries had voiced concerns and asked the government to stop the trials. There were some bad news which came along with these achievements. The biggest one was a terrorist attack in the middle of the year, in which 22 people were killed in the capital city. It was a conspiracy to isolate Bangladesh from the rest of the world but the result was different as many countries stood by Bangladesh and the government of Sheikh Hasina was able to bring normalcy in the country by killing many terrorists and their masterminds.
But the mass leader Sk. Hasina with her strong leadership, brought peace to the country and relief for the people joining the race for progress and development of the country. All governments after completing a year project their achievements while the opposition parties project the failures and complaints to the people. The picture this time though is different as the opposition could not produce any failures of the government. The gap between the expectations and fulfilment has narrowed down in a significant way. The confidence among the people which is growing rapidly for the present government can be seen in the latest Narayanganj City Corporation election. In the first ever corporation election with party symbol, the BNP candidate lost to AL nominee by more than 80,000 votes showing the popularity of Sheikh Hasina.

It cannot be denied that the government is showing zero tolerance towards the terrorists and the strong steps taken to tackle the situation, has been appreciated by many countries. People of Bangladesh hate terrorism from the core of their hearts. The history of Bangladesh is based on culture, cooperation, coordination and living together. There is no place for politics in Bangladesh without realising the contribution of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and neglecting the spirit of liberation war.

Sheikh Hasina while addressing the nation on 12th January, 2017 on the completion of her third year in this tenure thanked her countrymen for their support and expressed her gratitude to the people. She gave an account on the achievement of her government suchas the price index dropping from double digits to 5.03, poverty rate from 15 to 7 percent. The Prime Minister also mentioned the Padma Bridge Project with self-financing by the government and many modern railway projects which are being taken up for development. She left it to the people to judge her performance as how much she could fulfil their expectation.

The traitors, jealous of the success of the government, did not stop after the Holy Artisan attack, they continued their attacksby attacking the Eid Jamaat at Shokaliain Kishorganj, attacked temples and mosques and even carried out suicide attacks using women.
